At PlotLens, we take your privacy seriously. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Name and email address
  • Authentication credentials — handled entirely by our identity provider, Clerk, which acts as a sub-processor. PlotLens does not store your account password.
  • Billing information (if applicable)
  • Organization details (for team accounts)

Content You Provide

When you use PlotLens, we process:

  • Documents and manuscripts you upload
  • Story elements, timelines, and Story Bible data you create
  • Validation queries and results

Your Content Is Yours

We do not use your creative content to train AI models. Your stories, characters, and worlds remain yours. We process your content solely to provide the PlotLens service.

Usage Data

We automatically collect:

  • Log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited)
  • Device information
  • Feature usage analytics
  • Performance metrics

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and improve the PlotLens service
  • Process your manuscripts and provide narrative intelligence insights
  • Communicate with you about your account and updates
  • Provide customer support
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve our product
  • Comply with legal obligations

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:

  • Service providers (sub-processors): Hosting, authentication, payment processing, email, support, and analytics partners who help us operate PlotLens
  • AI providers: For entity extraction and validation processing. Your content is never used to train or fine-tune models. The provider may retain prompts for a limited period for its own abuse monitoring — the security page states the exact position.
  • Legal requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights
  • Business transfers: In the event of a merger or acquisition

Every sub-processor is named — with its purpose, the data it receives, and its region — in thesub-processor table on our security page. That dated table is the canonical list; this policy deliberately does not keep a second copy that could drift out of step with it.

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • Encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256, platform-managed)
  • Database-level tenant isolation, so one customer's queries cannot reach another customer's data
  • Automated dependency, secret, container, and infrastructure scanning on every change
  • Role-based access controls, delegated authentication, and audit logging

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data and content while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where required by law.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Correction: Update inaccurate information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data
  • Export: Download your content and data
  • Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications

7. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies for:

  • Essential functionality (login sessions)
  • Analytics (understanding how you use PlotLens)

8. International Users

PlotLens is operated from the United States. If you are located outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. We comply with applicable data protection laws including GDPR for EU users.

9. Children's Privacy

PlotLens is not intended for users under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or through the app.
